13th November 2013, Wednesday : Live Exhibition

We already reached IIS lab at 9.30pm and we continue to finish up the remaining works and decorations. I was helping design leader to craft and cut papers. After that, I was also helped logistic leader to hang up decorations.



During the exhibition, our group got feedbacks and comments from guest and lecturer, such as:
-our recycle bin can be put in the middle as suggestion.
-bigger hole and smaller hole
-the narrative is clear and direct
-light effect can be improve, its too dim, suggested to multiply led light
-the character inside the storyline. Is that the same guy who cut the trees and decide which bin to throw?
-the sound is not clear, confusing
-What if this installation is last long for 1 week? Find some way to solve it.





Before the exhibition ended up, Jazmi & Shahnim has gave us some feedback for each group.
They suggested us to polish our presentation skills. During the presentation, when there was some technical problems happened, my group were panic and stunned to present our installation fluently. We really need some teamwork to help the others. Always prepared plan A or B in case as standby to make work smarter. Overall, we still need to polish our professionalism. For myself, I personally suggested that I need to really speak up during the presentation.I was too quiet and lack of confidence to present.


8th November - 12th November 2013 : Working progress

We continue our working progress for the following days from 10am to 9pm. Its already 4 days left before the exhibition and we are running out of time. We set our target each day to finish our installation. I was in charged in finalizing the sound and after I finished it, I helped graphic design leader to craft papers. In this time, what we have left out is the panel of the storyline, animation for bad ending, printing hard copy such as poster, leaflet, and forms.








Before the exhibition day, we went to IIS for set up to test on the lightings and also continue with our progress.



6th November - 7th November 2013: Working Progress


We showed our working progress that our group did during semester break to lecturer.

We had add in an awareness poster & 2 animation to show good ending and bad ending.

All members were continued their progress.

I was in charged in sound editing and I already found some suitable background music to enhance the sound effect.

5th November 2013, Tuesday: Working Progress

After I came back from semester break, this is the first meeting for me to start to continue my work. I was waiting design leader to draw the graphics and I was take part to help her in paper cutting. I was also giving opinions and feedback on the animation and poster design.

21st October - 2nd November 2013 :Progress

The dates below are the meeting schedule during the semester break. I did not come back KL for any meeting because I failed to get any leaves from my parents. I worked for my dad in these 2 months. But to connect with them, sometimes I will discussed with them via whatapps or facebook group page to keep update the work progress. I planned to catch up the progress once I come back to KL.

28th August 2013, Wednesday: Beta Test

I was arrived IIS lab about 9pm and they reached after 10 mins later. We started to setting up our installations but we still had the last two scene haven't craft yet. Therefore, technical leader started to solve the technical problems and the rest of us were busy design leader to craft papers.






During the presentation, we got some feedbacks from guest lectures:
-unique paper craft
-the sound is linear but the visual is static
-didn’t touch the audience
-start button is too small
-need to perform a demonstration for the audience
-unclear with what is happening
-what is the starting point? double check with the story
What could we do inside the next 10 days before exhibition?
-repackage. make it nicer.(packaging sells)
-books, poster, screen, instructions
-put a logo there
-change the “take me” to something such as “its free”
-lose interesting , curious of waiting
-view of installation is quite limited, others can’t see it clearly
-very poor fabrication - wire, table, chair
-where is the selling point (strengthen the visual interface and audio interface)
-is the influence strong enough or not?
-if the graphic can move will be better?
-the user experience
-attraction point - title can be one strategy that will attract users
-using digital visual- having the paper visual but with digital visual
-the idea is not there, never thought the target audience , very normal case

21th August 2013, Wednesday: Working day




A week before beta test, we are still in the progress of paper crafting also to find a solution to stabilize he programing and arduino. We even sold the led light in during the class and lecturer told us we had sold it wrongly. It was supposedly to be the golden part of the soldering board at the bottom.

14th August 2013, Wednesday: Alpha test

Feedback from Jazmi and Shahnim :
- too many birds in first scene (in the sound)
-bird ’chipping’ sound still there in the second scene
-the transition is nice if able to move the light
-most big problem is codding
-do a check of what we have been done

31st July 2013, Wednesday : Jazmi and Shahnim’s feedback

After the consultation session with lecturers, we had a problem that our ideas is not that strong enough. We were facing the issue either to drop it or to continue with it.

These are the feedback that lecturer gave us:
-study on dustbin design
-which dustbin do you refer?
-focus on one object
-what kind of music? (represent something)
-how to improve and pushed further?
-japanese dustbin
-find references that is inspire your installation
-what if there is not a rubbish there?
-people are curious on the object that produce sound
-find a story
-what is the objective?
-extend the idea to others way, to interpreting the sound
-as a student project, it is ok but if it is for portfolio this would be a problem

I personally think that we really need to think about it deeply better than change our idea again.

24th July 2013, Wednesday: Group meeting

Before the presentation started, we did our final refinement on the proposal and slides. I was nervous for the presentation and rehearsal for about 4 times. After that, we went to print out our proposal(hard copy). During the class sharing session, we had to give critical and evaluation for the other groups.

Here are the feedbacks that gave from lecturer and classmates.


Feedback from classmates:    
 -make the sound stronger or lower when touch
-different color, different led color
-make it circular
-analog pin?
-does the led light fade in/off?
-what is the point to light up the glass? what is so important?
-what so special with our installation? doing it by digital?
-refine that gap


Feedback from Shahnim:   
-sketches need to be finalize
-a slide missing there (detailly, why? this why that?
-user testing slide is missing
-time of experience
-how do you explain the installation? without you?
-metaphor is too abstract


The day after the sharing session, we had a discussion on facebook group to talk about the idea.



23st July 2013, Tuesday: Group meeting

4 of us went to IIS lab to get measurement of the floor so that we could estimated the measurement of our installation. After that, we went to Daiso to find for material, 8 different wine glass to represent the glass harp. We spend like 2 hours inside the mall to compare the price and the size of the glass.
When we went back home, we had a online meeting which is for refine our proposal. The next day is our class sharing session, so we also had to prepare a slide for the presentation.

My tasks for today was to complete my part in the proposal and get prepare for the presentation. I need to rehearsal on what I need to present for tomorrow.

21st July 2013, Sunday: Group meeting

After having consultation with Jazmi, we decided to change our project execution. We had our discussion on the design via skype and also refine proposal together at the same time.

19th July 2013, Friday: Discussion with Jazmi

We had a discussion with another lecturer Jazmi about our installation.

We asked for :
-technical problem - infrared
-cost of the led light
-confirm our idea and which to use (arduino / other ways)

Feedback that Jazmi gave :
-movement of glass harp
-user experience
-processing (touch screen) can connect with arduino
-infrared will detect the whole cup, no matter at what point
-think of one sound
-study what is available in street jam
-get things simple, don’t involve too much electronic stuff

17th July 2013, Wednesday : Shahnim’s feedback

We had propose our idea to our lecturer Shahnim to get some feedback. There will be a submission on the next following week.

She asked us some questions: -How to have fun on these glass?
-What is the best height for the work?
-What the sound come from?
-Think it detailly.
-How do you let people to learn in and confident to play with it?

I think that we really need to refine and solve the problems that mention above.

19th June - 16th July 2013 : Formation group & Meeting

19th June , Wednesday
Formation of group.
Wilson as group leader and also technical leader.
Shireen Peh as logistic leader.

22nd June, Saturday
This is the first time for our group meeting. We discuss about the job that each leader take part and explore on the ideas.



10th July, Wednesday
Group meeting after class. Discuss about the ideas. We plan to use the idea of sound play to develop our idea. The idea is to let user to experience on how to play a glass harp.



16th July, Tuesday
After class, we met at library to discuss the idea further. I was distribute to search fro glass harp tone (C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C). We had also discuss on the materials that we need to use for our installation.
